Terms of Service
Current service status. All of the tool's features are free, and no ads are shown now. From 30 November 2026, Adsterra's banner ads will be shown on the tool, guide, FAQ and about pages (if you accept cookies; visitors who decline see A-ADS's ads, which use no cookies). While you're signed in to an account that bought Remove Ads, no ads are shown. This is how the service operates now, whatever the effective dates of the document changes below.
Changes to these terms
These terms take effect on 2026-10-30, the day they were published. Until the day before, the previous terms (effective 2026-10-06) apply, and under Article 3(5) contracts made before then stay under the previous terms. The change announced on 2026-10-25 (to take effect on 2026-11-01) does not take effect: this change replaces it.
- Why: the Site shows Adsterra's banner ads, and A-ADS's ads, which use no cookies, to users who decline cookies.
- What changes: Article 4(2) now says the Operator shows ads (Adsterra) on the tool, guide, FAQ and about pages to fund the Service, and Article 20(3) says Adsterra selects and shows the ads on the Site. Adsterra replaces the advertising provider the previous terms named. Amended again the same day: both articles now add A-ADS for users who decline cookies. What Remove Ads provides, its price and payment, and the withdrawal and refund conditions don't change.
This is an English translation of the Korean terms of service (이용약관). If the two versions differ, the Korean version prevails.
Article 1 (Purpose)
These terms set out the rights, obligations and responsibilities of Culture & Tech (the "Operator") and users when they use the services provided on Chord to MIDI (https://chord-to-midi.app, the "Site"), which the Operator runs.
Article 2 (Definitions)
- "Site" means the website (https://chord-to-midi.app) that the Operator runs to provide the Service.
- "Service" means the tool provided on the Site for making MIDI from chord progressions and reading chord progressions from MIDI files (the "Tool"), the guide pages that come with it, and the paid product Remove Ads.
- "User" means anyone, member or not, who visits the Site and uses the Service under these terms.
- "Member" means a user who has signed in to the Site with a Google, Kakao or Naver account or with an emailed sign-in link, which creates their account.
- "Remove Ads" means a paid digital service that, once paid for, applies to the member's account from the moment the payment is approved until the Service ends, with no time limit, and stops ads from being shown on the Site while the member is signed in with that account.
Article 3 (Posting, explanation and amendment of the terms)
(1) The Operator posts these terms and its business name, representative's name, business address, phone number, email address, business registration number, mail-order business report number, privacy officer and similar details at the bottom of every page of the Site and on the Business Information page, so that users can easily find them.
(2) Before a purchase, the Operator lets users check important terms, such as the withdrawal and refund conditions, on the purchase page.
(3) The Operator may amend these terms within the limits of the relevant laws, including the Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce, the Act on the Regulation of Terms and Conditions, the Framework Act on Electronic Documents and Transactions, the Electronic Financial Transactions Act, the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, and the Framework Act on Consumers.
(4) When the Operator amends the terms, it announces the effective date and the reasons for the amendment, together with the current terms, on the Site from 7 days before the effective date until the day before it. Amendments unfavorable to users are announced at least 30 days in advance, with the old and new wording compared clearly.
(5) Amended terms apply only to contracts concluded on or after their effective date; contracts concluded earlier remain under the terms that applied before the amendment. However, if a user who has already concluded a contract tells the Operator, within the notice period in paragraph (4), that they want the amended terms to apply, and the Operator agrees, the amended terms apply.
(6) Matters not covered by these terms, and the interpretation of these terms, follow the Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce, the Act on the Regulation of Terms and Conditions, the Guidelines on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce issued by the Korea Fair Trade Commission, other relevant laws and commercial practice.
Article 4 (Provision and changes of the Service)
(1) The Operator provides:
- the Tool, for making MIDI from chord progressions, playing and downloading it, and reading chord progressions from MIDI files (free of charge);
- Remove Ads (paid, one-time payment);
- guides, support and other work the Operator decides on.
(2) The Tool is free, and the Operator shows ads (Adsterra, or A-ADS for users who decline cookies) on the Site's tool, guide, FAQ and about pages to fund the Service. The legal notices, such as these terms and the privacy policy, and the account and purchase pages carry no ads, and the privacy policy sets out the personal information processed for the ads. The price of Remove Ads is shown on the purchase page, VAT included.
(3) The Tool runs inside the user's browser. The progressions users type and the MIDI files they open are not sent to the Operator's servers.
(4) The Operator may change the Tool's features where there is a good reason, such as a change in technical specifications. If the Operator changes what Remove Ads provides (that ads are not shown), it notifies members of the reason and compensates them for any damage this causes, unless it proves that it acted without intent or negligence.
Article 5 (Suspension of the Service)
(1) The Operator may suspend the Service temporarily for maintenance, replacement or failure of information and communications equipment, a communications outage or similar reasons.
(2) The Operator compensates users for damage caused by a temporary suspension under paragraph (1), unless it proves that it acted without intent or negligence.
(3) If the Operator decides to end the Service, for example because it closes the business, it announces this on the Site at least 30 days before the Service ends, and also tells members who bought Remove Ads by email at their confirmed email address. The Operator compensates members who bought Remove Ads in accordance with the relevant laws.
Article 6 (Membership)
(1) A user becomes a member the first time they sign in to the Site with a Google, Kakao or Naver account or with a sign-in link sent to their email. Signing in is needed only to buy or restore Remove Ads; the Tool can be used without signing in.
(2) Children under 14 can't become members.
(3) The Operator may refuse membership, or restrict it afterwards, if someone else's account or email has been used or the user is under 14.
(4) Before their first purchase, a member confirms one email address (by opening a link sent to it). The confirmed email is where receipts are sent and becomes a way to sign in to that account; one email can be used by one account only. Members can change their confirmed email on the account page.
(5) Members can link other ways to sign in (Google, Kakao, Naver) to the same account on the account page, and remove them while they have a confirmed email. A Google, Kakao or Naver account can be linked to one account on the Site only, and the Operator never merges accounts because their email addresses are the same.
(6) Members are responsible for keeping their sign-in accounts and the mailbox of their confirmed email secure.
Article 7 (Withdrawal and loss of membership)
(1) Members may withdraw at any time by deleting their account on the account page, and the Operator processes this immediately.
(2) When a member withdraws, Remove Ads and the sign-in methods linked to that account end with it, and signing in again with the same Google, Kakao or Naver account or email creates a new account without Remove Ads. Members within 7 days of payment may request a refund before withdrawing.
(3) After withdrawal, transaction records that the law requires to be kept are kept for the period set out in the Privacy Policy.
(4) The Operator may restrict or suspend a membership if the member:
- uses someone else's account or payment method;
- deliberately disrupts the operation of the Service; or
- does anything prohibited by law or by these terms.
(5) Before ending a membership, the Operator notifies the member and gives them a period of at least 30 days to explain.
Article 8 (Notices to members)
(1) The Operator sends notices to a member at their confirmed email address or, if they have none, at the email address their sign-in account provided.
(2) For notices to members in general, the Operator may post the notice on the Site for at least 7 days instead of notifying each member. Matters that significantly affect a member's own transactions are notified individually.
Article 9 (Purchase)
Members buy Remove Ads as follows:
- Sign in with a Google, Kakao or Naver account or by email and, before the first purchase, confirm the email that receives the receipt.
- Check the product description, the price (VAT included) and the withdrawal and refund conditions on the purchase page.
- Agree to these terms and confirm that they are 14 or older.
- Choose a payment method and pay in Toss Payments' payment window.
Article 10 (Formation of the contract)
(1) The contract is formed when the payment for the member's purchase request is approved and the Operator informs the member on the payment result screen that the purchase is complete.
(2) The Operator may refuse a purchase request if:
- it contains false, missing or mistaken information;
- someone else's payment method is used;
- it comes from someone under 14; or
- Remove Ads already applies to the account.
(3) If a minor makes a purchase without the consent of their legal guardian, the minor or the legal guardian may cancel the contract.
(4) When payment is complete, the Operator shows the order number, amount, payment time and receipt on the payment result screen and the account page.
Article 11 (Payment methods)
Remove Ads can be paid for through the electronic payment service of Toss Payments Co., Ltd. (토스페이먼츠 주식회사) by the methods below. The Operator adds no fee of any kind to the price for any payment method.
- Credit or debit card
- Easy-pay services (간편결제)
Article 12 (Supply)
(1) Remove Ads applies to the member's account as soon as the payment is approved, and ads are not shown on the Site in any browser where the member is signed in with that account.
(2) Remove Ads applies from the moment the payment is approved until the Service ends, with no time limit. If the Service ends, Article 5(3) applies.
(3) Remove Ads removes the Site's ads and adds or changes nothing else; the Tool's features are the same whether or not a member has bought it.
(4) Members can check whether Remove Ads applies, and see their purchase, on the account page at any time, and can restore it on another device or browser by signing in to the same account (with a linked sign-in method or their confirmed email).
Article 12-2 (Lost sign-in)
(1) A member who can no longer sign in with their Google, Kakao or Naver account can sign in with their confirmed email and keep using the same account and Remove Ads.
(2) If a member has lost both their sign-in methods and the mailbox of their confirmed email and presents the order number and proof of payment, the Operator, after checking them, may move that order's Remove Ads to another account the member names (an account with a confirmed email). The Operator refuses requests it cannot verify.
(3) After a move under paragraph (2), the order's receipt still refers to the email address the order was made with, and withdrawals and refunds are handled through the same order.
Article 13 (Refund when Remove Ads can't be supplied)
If the Operator can't provide Remove Ads that a member has bought, it informs the member of the reason without delay and refunds the payment, or takes the steps needed to refund it, within 3 business days of receiving the payment.
Article 14 (Withdrawal)
(1) A member who has bought Remove Ads may withdraw the purchase within 7 days of the payment date. Although Remove Ads is a digital service supplied as soon as it is paid for, the Operator doesn't apply the restriction on withdrawal under Article 17(2) of the Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce, and refunds the full amount for any withdrawal within 7 days, whether or not Remove Ads has been used.
(2) Notwithstanding paragraph (1), if Remove Ads differs from how it was described or advertised, or is provided differently from the contract, the member may withdraw within 3 months of receiving it, or within 30 days of the day they learned or could have learned of this.
(3) After the period in paragraph (1), and within 30 days of the payment date, a member may still request a refund if a defect in the Service prevents Remove Ads from working properly and the Operator can't fix it. Withdrawal under paragraph (2) remains possible within the periods set out there, whatever this period.
(4) Withdrawals and refunds can be requested by email or on the account page; the Refund Policy sets out the procedure.
Article 15 (Effects of withdrawal)
(1) The Operator refunds the payment by cancelling it through Toss Payments within 3 business days of receiving the withdrawal request.
(2) For payments by credit card or easy-pay service, the Operator asks the payment provider without delay to stop or cancel the charge. When the refund actually appears depends on the card company or payment service.
(3) If the Operator delays a refund, it pays interest for the period of the delay, calculated at the rate set by the Enforcement Decree of the Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce.
(4) The Operator doesn't charge members a penalty or claim damages because they withdrew a purchase.
(5) When the refund is complete, Remove Ads is removed from the account.
Article 16 (Protection of personal information)
The Operator processes only the minimum personal information needed to provide the Service, as set out in the Privacy Policy. The Operator doesn't collect users' MIDI files or progressions.
Article 17 (Obligations of the Operator)

(3) The Operator doesn't send users commercial advertising email they don't want.
(4) The Operator is liable for damage to users caused by unfair labeling or advertising under Article 3 of the Act on Fair Labeling and Advertising.
Article 18 (Obligations of users)
Users must not:
- use someone else's sign-in account, email or payment method;
- place an abnormal load on the Service or its servers, or disrupt its operation by automated means;
- click ads fraudulently or encourage others to click them;
- change information posted on the Site without permission;
- infringe the copyright or other intellectual property rights of the Operator or third parties;
- damage the reputation of the Operator or third parties, or interfere with their business; or
- do anything else that breaks the law.
Article 19 (Copyright and restrictions on use)
(1) Copyright and other intellectual property rights in the works the Operator has created, such as the Site's software, design and text, belong to the Operator.
(2) Users may not, without the Operator's prior consent, use information obtained through the Site in which the Operator holds intellectual property rights for commercial purposes by copying, transmitting, publishing, distributing, broadcasting or other means, or let third parties do so.
(3) The rights in the progressions users type and the MIDI files they make with the Tool belong to the users, and the Operator claims no rights in them. Users may use them freely, including for commercial purposes.
(4) The MIDI files users open in the Tool are not sent to the Operator, and users are responsible for making sure they have the right to use those files.
Article 20 (Limitation of liability)
(1) The Tool is provided free of charge and as is, and the Operator doesn't guarantee that its results, such as chord recognition and MIDI conversion, will suit a user's particular purpose. This doesn't apply to damage caused by the Operator's intent or gross negligence.
(2) The progressions and MIDI files that users make exist only on their own devices, so the Operator can't keep or recover them. Users should save the files they need themselves.
(3) The ads on the Site are selected and shown by Adsterra (or A-ADS for users who decline cookies), and the Operator is not a party to transactions between users and advertisers made through those ads.
(4) The Operator isn't liable when it can't provide the Service because of natural disasters or other force majeure.
(5) The Operator isn't liable for problems in using the Service caused by the user, such as their device, browser settings or network.
Article 21 (Dispute resolution)
(1) To reflect legitimate opinions and complaints from users and to handle compensation for damage, the Operator runs a contact point (email: contact@cultureand.tech).
(2) The Operator handles complaints and opinions submitted by users as a priority. If they can't be handled promptly, it tells the user the reason and the schedule at once.
(3) For e-commerce disputes between the Operator and a user, if the user applies for relief, the matter may be settled by mediation by a dispute mediation body commissioned by the Korea Fair Trade Commission or by a city or provincial governor.
Article 22 (Jurisdiction and governing law)
(1) Lawsuits about e-commerce disputes between the Operator and a user fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the district court for the user's address at the time the suit is filed or, if the user has no address, for their place of residence. If the user's address or residence is unclear at the time of filing, or the user lives abroad, the suit is filed with the competent court under the Civil Procedure Act.
(2) Korean law applies to lawsuits between the Operator and users.
