DAW Bridge
DAW drag isn't available to new users yet. It needs both the Chord to MIDI DAW Bridge Chrome extension and the Chord to MIDI Bridge companion app, and the extension isn't on the Chrome Web Store, so it can't be installed. The companion app doesn't add DAW drag on its own. Download .mid works as usual in every browser, on Windows too.
DAW drag puts the clip you generate on Chord to MIDI straight onto a track in your DAW, with no download step in between. The extension finds the clip on the page, and the companion app hands the file to your DAW. Both run only on your computer; what they handle is described in the Privacy Policy.
Requirements
- A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 15 or later. Intel Macs aren't supported.
- Google Chrome, or a Chrome-based browser such as Naver Whale, on that Mac.
- A DAW that accepts a MIDI file dropped onto a track. Tested with Cubase 15.
- Both the extension and the companion app. The extension isn't available to new users yet.
DAW drag isn't available on Windows: there's no Windows version of the companion app.
Use Download .mid instead
You don't need anything installed to get a clip into your DAW:
- Press Download .mid (Ctrl/⌘+S) in the tool.
- Once the download finishes, drag the file from Chrome's Downloads button at the top right, or from Finder on macOS, into your DAW. For Cubase 15, drop it onto a MIDI track.
The Guide has more on downloading and sharing.
Advanced installation
The steps below set up the companion app and the extension. As the extension can't be installed from the Chrome Web Store, they only complete the set-up if the extension is already in your browser.
Show the installation steps
1. Install the companion app
Download Chord to MIDI Bridge 0.1.0 for macOS (DMG, 408 KB). It's signed by the developer and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it without warnings.
SHA-256: 52b426a5fa617020d249aba05962c1480f7cf1fe347a45e38b12c5da1ae84d9f
- Open the downloaded DMG and copy Chord to MIDI Bridge to your Applications folder (the one in the DMG window, or your home folder's Applications). The app must run from one of those two places.
- Open the app from Applications. The first time, macOS asks whether to open an app downloaded from the internet: choose Open.
- Choose Install / Repair integration. This registers the app with Chrome for your Mac user account only; nothing runs in the background, and nothing starts at login.
- Choose Test helper connection if you like: it should report that the helper passed its checks. You can quit the app afterwards; Chrome starts the helper itself when a clip is ready.
2. Check the extension
The extension isn't on the Chrome Web Store, so without it the tool shows a No Extension button instead of DAW drag. If the extension is in your browser, click its icon in Chrome's toolbar and choose Test connection: it should say Connected with the app's version.
3. Drag
Open Chord to MIDI, generate a progression, and wait for the pill on the clip to read Ready · drag to your DAW. Drag the clip from the page onto a MIDI track in your DAW. Each new generation is prepared again; just drag again.
Checking and fixing
| The clip's pill says | What it means |
|---|---|
| Ready · drag to your DAW | Everything is connected. |
| Helper not installed | Chrome can't start the companion app. Open the app and choose Install / Repair integration, then reload the page. |
| Connection lost · Reconnect | The helper stopped while the page was open. Press Reconnect. |
| Update the helper | The extension and the app no longer match. Install the current app from this page. |
If the No Extension button shows instead of a pill, the extension is off or not installed in this browser.
Removing it
- Open Chord to MIDI Bridge and choose Remove integration. Chrome no longer starts the helper; the app itself and your MIDI files stay.
- Move the app to the Trash if you no longer want it.
- Remove or turn off the extension in Chrome's extensions page; removing the app doesn't remove the extension.
The clips the helper prepared are kept in ~/Library/Caches/tech.cultureand.chordtomidi.bridge for up to 24 hours, so a DAW project can still read a dragged clip; deleting that folder deletes them at once.
