About Chord to MIDI

Chord to MIDI is a free web tool that turns chord symbols into MIDI, and MIDI files back into chord symbols. Type a progression like Am7 - [Dm7 - G7] - Cmaj7, listen to it on a piano and download a standard MIDI file for your DAW. Or open a MIDI file and get its chords as text you can read, edit, play and export again.

Where it comes from

Chord to MIDI began as the Chord → MIDI tool in MIDI Utility, a Mac app its creator built for their own songwriting and production work. The web version runs the same engine, the same Swift code compiled to WebAssembly, so it understands the same chord spellings and reads MIDI files the same way as the Mac app.

Your music stays on your device

The engine runs entirely in your browser. There is no upload step: the MIDI files you open, the progressions you type and the MIDI you generate stay on your device, and your settings are stored only in your browser.

Cost and ads

Chord to MIDI is free to use, and every feature is open to everyone. From 30 November 2026, Adsterra's banner ads will be shown on the tool, guide, FAQ and about pages (if you decline cookies, you see A-ADS's ads, which use no cookies); until then there are no ads. A one-time Remove Ads purchase (₩6,600) keeps them away whenever you're signed in to your Chord to MIDI account, and every feature is the same either way.

Who runs it

Chord to MIDI is operated by Culture & Tech (representative: Chan Baek), a business registered in South Korea. The registration numbers, address and phone number are on the Business Information page.
